The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional as to how they perceive the Veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their country.
As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.
The greatest privilege of my life has been to wear the uniform of our country in a righteous cause. Whatever we may be today as a nation, it is because many generations of Americans were willing to make the greatest of sacrifices. You have earned the thanks of a grateful nation and I'm proud to salute you.
